Anthony Pursey


Making your mark globally is no small effort. It takes risk, due diligence and perseverance. Partners in Performance’s growth into new markets has meant using top talent to pave the way for new partnerships. A pivotal player in creating a presence in Dubai, UAE has been Anthony Pursey. Originally from the UK, Anthony lived and worked for Partners in Performance in Australia before recently relocating to Dubai, the region that has become a rapidly growing hub for business.

Anthony has been with Partners in Performance since 2008 and serves as Global Head of Capital Practice. With almost four decades of experience leading businesses, he has held both Management Consultant and CEO positions. He is an expert in the automotive industry and has been responsible for sales and business development, among many other areas, globally.

When he moved to Dubai, Anthony left his beloved Harley Davidson behind. In the interest of finding a new hobby in his new hometown, Anthony has taken up kiteboarding, a water sport that keeps his adventurous spirit alive.

  • Identified AU$46m prioritised savings opportunity (with another AU$48m requiring further analysis and discussion with operations personnel) at a longwall coal-mining expansion project facing cost overruns.
  • Identified AU$0.58bn cost-reduction opportunity for a coal port upgrade project nearing the completion of its definition phase study (DPS), where the capital estimate increased by AU$0.34bn to AU$2.25bn during the definition phase. Cost benefits comprised of AU$370m around scope and estimate review, AU$170m savings opportunities around design and construction execution ideas, and AU$70m from construction schedule improvements.
  • Identified more than 200 improvement ideas with potential to increase net present value (NPV) by AU$5.2bn – a capital expenditure (Capex) reduction of AU$3.6bn – for a new mining company wanting to build mine, port and rail assets to develop extensive coal resources.
  • Identified savings of AU$1.1bn during a capital optimisation engagement for an AU$3.7bn expansion project in Queensland.
  • Identified savings amounting to 20% of direct mine-costs for a three-phase mine-port-rail expansion in West Australia. Overall the project captured AU$6bn in savings.

  • Anthony’s operational experience spans many years of direct leadership involvement in managing change and organisational performance improvement.
  • As Chief Executive of the UK’s only bus, coach and fire engine chassis producer, he managed sales, design, engineering and manufacturing and employed 450 people. He turned the business into the most profitable group within the company, and employed lean manufacturing techniques (5S and Kaizen) to radically improve fabrication shop productivity and throughput.
  • As Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the largest bus body manufacturer in the UK, he delivered an 80% increase in sales, 400% increase in profits and a completely new product range over a three-year period. Output growth was achieved by debottlenecking the assembly process.
  • As Managing Director of an OE parts and service business, he oversaw the creation of a single business unit from five legacy businesses, including the design and implementation of projects across warehouse infrastructure, IT, e-commerce and communications.
