Richard Collins

Introduction

Richard has over 20 years of experience in improving performance for large corporations in Australia and around the world. He has worked across all areas of mining, energy, telco and aviation with both business improvement and sourcing engagements. He is known for delivering results but keeps developing capability in teams and clients at the forefront. He loves spending time with the family – biking and walking whenever possible.

Career snapshot

  • Helped explosives and mining services client establish the programme management office for a group-wide cost reduction effort with target benefits of $116m to be delivered in the first year.
  • Conducted a diagnostic for a mid-tier gold miner with operations in Australia and PNG. Identified $18m of savings from an addressable spend of $260m.
  • Led a comprehensive cost reduction programme for Australia’s largest generator and coal mine, addressing $200m of costs using a combination of business improvement, strategic sourcing and rapid sourcing.
  • Delivered more than US$10m of annual savings in the areas of in-flight catering, distribution and marketing, international data communications and IT infrastructure at an Asian national airline.
  • Led an engagement to accelerate land and environment approvals at a major coal seam gas development. Approvals were causing major delays and through the implementation of KPIs and clear accountabilities, as well as a critical process, the rate of approvals was increased to meet the development schedule.
  • Guided a performance improvement programme at a dairy manufacturer to deliver more than $13m of benefits to a food manufacturing site.
  • Identified $60m in synergies and established programme office function, processes and governance to realise savings over 12 months at an Australian retail bank.

  • He holds a BSc degree, with a major in Physics and Mathematics, and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne
