Bernardo Barcelos

Introduction

Are collectables still cool? Bernardo certainly thinks so. As a devoted Beatles fan, when he finds a remarkable piece of memorabilia, he jumps on it. He also collects a coin from every place he travels, and since these travels are frequent, he not only gets to collect valuable insights from each client he works with but adds to his coin collection in the process.

Bernardo has built relationships and developed business, trade and investment opportunities between Brazil and the UK. He has worked across different industries including venture capital, e-commerce, energy, oil and gas, chemical, mining and retail. Bernardo also contributed to a consulting project for a photovoltaic company using Lean Start-up concepts, developing a minimum valuable product, business model and finance plan. He has worked in Brazil, the UK, Argentina and Peru since joining Partners in Performance.

Fluent in Portuguese, English and Spanish, Bernardo can talk to pretty much anyone. When he is home, he loves to play guitar with his friends, watch movies, and remember his days of rugby and running. Today, Bernardo is lucky enough to run around the world with Partners in Performance, adding to his collections and marking off more destinations on his map. Still to come? Bernardo wants to deep dive in Indonesia one day soon.

Career snapshot

  • Oil and gas – facilities: Implemented a process optimisation project. Implemented 'Continuous Improvement' (CI) tools to reduce construction time and costs from process planning, engineering, construction and start of the plant.
  • Chemical – new plant: Organisational restructure in the area of new projects (construction of new plants) by redesigning governance model.
  • Mining – sourcing, management system and CI: Support to analysis, validation and negotiation of existing contracts with forecast of US$5m annual savings. Consolidated and negotiated with suppliers to reduce costs, and redesigned contracts and procurement management process. Developed a management system in the areas of maintenance, plant and mine and implemented a CI methodology with US$40m annual savings potential.
  • Retail – construction productivity improvement and distribution centre transfer strategy: Used Partner in Performance's methodology to reduce critical path work by approximately 30%. Strategy definition and action plan for the distribution centre transfer with a stock of 10k SKU’s, with value of US$30m and 8m units in stock.
